Our friend Julai from Happy Hearty Home experienced this firsthand after having two pregnancies close together. She gained a total of 10 kg (22 lbs) and, despite exercising regularly and eating what she thought were healthy foods, she struggled to lose the extra weight. I reached a point where I was no longer comfortable with my weight. I felt huge and bloated, and when I looked in the mirror, my face appeared very round.”
In her pre-kids days, Julai often resorted to unhealthy cycles of starving herself to lose weight for events, only to binge afterward. She realized that this approach wouldn’t work this time and that she needed a sustainable way to lose weight. She tried exercising, spending 30-45 minutes on a stationary bike 4-5 days a week for a month, but ended up gaining weight instead. Dave, a Filipino priest, discussing gluttony and the importance of doing one’s part when asking for help from God. “I always pray for good health for my husband and me so we can care for our children. But am I doing my part? The answer was a clear NO! I eat a LOT and exercise very little.”

Julai still has some weight to lose, but she has transformed her lifestyle for the better. “After the challenge, I am definitely NOT going back to my old eating habits because I don’t want to waste the results of the Challenge. I want to maintain my weight by eating healthier and exercising regularly, whether walking or indoor biking.”
